WHAT DOES MATH WORKSHOP LOOK LIKE?
NUMBER TALKS
You might hear your child say they had a number talk today. Click here to see a brief video on what a math talk might look like and why teachers are incorporating them into their lessons.
DIFFERENTIATED LEARNING
Below are some possible ways you might see the curriculum differentiated:
- Depth and rigor over acceleration
- Choice in assignments
- Teach using a variety of strategies to reach all types of learners
- Assess student readiness
- Opportunity to challenge oneself every day
CHARACTER EDUCATION
The Character Counts program is embedded in our lessons and is discussed daily.
We also use 123 Magic to provide each student with the opportunity to self monitor their actions.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT MATH
Why is math being taught differently?
As of August 2, 2010, the California Department of Education approved the adoption of national, Common Core standards for California. These nationally developed standards will begin to serve as the guide for instruction at each grade level after a two year implementation period. While not significantly different from the California standards, there will be some changes.
